This post is part of the 📖 Start From Zero series.
Today I continue reading Chapter 8 of the book Start From Zero.
The goal of this book is to build the brain of an entrepreneur, one that can create meaningful businesses and income streams from nothing.
Dealing with losing motivation
It is commonly known that we lose motivation if things don’t work. But what’s less known is that even when things are working, we still lose motivation. In both circumstances, it is still the result of the same thing.
Guess what? IDENTITY
Author Dane Maxwell says Identity can be extremely difficult to work with without proper guidance. And even with guidance, it can be very, very hard. I’ve given up on goals before because of how difficult it was to shift an identity.
But here’s the good news about Identity.
Identity is only a thought
Identity is genuinely just thought that once noticed and held with love, can lose its hypnotic trance on you.
Here’s what you need to do
Here are a couple of questions you can ask to troubleshoot your motivation.
Is there a belief I’m holding right now that’s causing me to lose motivation?
Is there an identity or story I’m holding about myself that’s causing me to lose motivation?
Am I just being lazy?
Cultivate the muscle of taking action through resistance. Hold the resistance at the same time you act. It’ll feel like you’re drowning above water, but eventually, you’ll be swimming.
To wrap up, here are the rules:
- Honor everything that comes up.
- Let everything be real but not true to who you are. Really honor it as real.
- Notice instead of believing everything to gain perspective.
- Keep going until you feel the space open up.”
